As I was reading this poignant work of non-fiction, I was completely immersed in it, and plunged myself into the book, marveling at the power words can hold. As the author relives the ordeals she faces through a highly traumatic period of her life, she compassionately delivers very important messages.The message is one of valuing the life of a loved one, unfailingly. The message is one of gratitude and thankfulness of our time on earth, never taking a moment for granted-life can be dangerously unpredictable. It’s also an uplifting and highly informative message for all those of us who are taking care of our ill loved ones- you are not alone. The message is one of perseverance, inner strength, believing in kindness, and not losing focus, despite the daily, often mountainous challenges faced by a caregiver.
It’s a cautionary story, written in a highly sensitive manner. The medical information is very insightful and accurate, which shows that the author has researched this topic thoroughly. There is a wonderfully organized glossary of medical terminology at the end of the book, which makes this entire journey such a valuable one. D.Duran highlights important issues with regard to the medical and rehabilitative system in USA. I personally found this story to be very enlightening, and I cannot wait to read more works by this very gifted writer.
Beautifully written, it touched me deeply. A must read for everyone- young and old alike. In fact, after reading this book, I think no one should be without a copy of it. If you love someone, share this book, because if a book can save a life, it’s this one.

I would recommend this book to an caregiver of a stroke patient or even a potential Stoke patient as the writer covers most all of the phases of treatment and recovery of a stroke victim. Though short the book gives a very good guide to things you might watch for and handle differently. I read this in the days following my mother's recent stroke and it helped me to understand the importance of many of the things that were occurring.
As one who husband had a heart attack than bypass surgery and than followed by a stroke,I relate to it all and so glad someone wrote about it. Our one year after stoke will be November 20th 2017. Our whole world change on November 20th 2016.
My spouse of many years unexpectedly had a hemorrhagic stroke. As I tend to do, I read everything I could about the subject, especially about care giving. I saw a lot of my experience in Dora Duran;s book. She deals with a lot of the small things, the nuances of what family, especially caregivers, will face in their loved one's recovery.
Humanely and gently written, if you have a loved one recovering from a stroke, you'll get a lot from this book.
